Funding FAQ
How do I know if I qualify for VA home modification grants?+
You may qualify if you have a service-connected or non-service-connected disability that requires home modifications for safe daily living. Start by talking to your VA physician — they can prescribe modifications and initiate the HISA grant process. We work with VA patients regularly and can help with documentation.
Can I combine multiple funding sources?+
Yes! Many families combine a VA HISA grant with Medicaid waiver funding or Medicare Advantage benefits. For example, you might use HISA for bathroom modifications and Medicaid for a stair lift. We help you maximize available funding across all programs.
How long does funding approval take?+
VA HISA grants: 2–6 weeks. Georgia Medicaid waivers: 30–90 days (waitlists may apply). Medicare Advantage: varies by plan but typically 2–4 weeks. USDA grants: 4–8 weeks. We start project planning during the approval period so we can begin work as soon as funds are available.
Do you help with funding applications?+
Yes! We provide free contractor estimates formatted for grant applications, help complete required documentation, and coordinate with case managers and VA representatives. We've helped hundreds of Georgia families secure funding for home modifications.
What if I don't qualify for any grants?+
We offer flexible financing options with monthly payments to make accessibility modifications affordable. We also prioritize modifications by urgency — often, critical safety items like grab bars and lighting can be installed for under $1,000. Call (470) 888-2724 to discuss your situation.
Are tax deductions available for home modifications?+
Yes — if a physician prescribes home modifications as medically necessary, the cost may be deductible as a medical expense on your federal taxes (exceeding 7.5% of AGI). We recommend consulting your tax advisor with documentation we provide.
